Veterans making waves in Terrigal

Transitioning from military service to civilian life can be challenging, particularly for veterans navigating life after their time in Defence Force. Often, they miss the camaraderie and support network they had while serving, making it crucial to establish new connections in their local community.

Recognising the importance role of the RSL in connecting veterans to services and support, Terrigal-Wamberal RSL sub-Branch President Scott Warr initiated the Veterans Ocean Swimming group, offering a safe and inclusive space for veterans to embrace physical well-being while relishing the company of like-minded individuals. The group has also attracted younger veterans to engage with the sub-Branch. In particular, they are drawn to this vibrant community where they can connect with peers who share similar experiences and understand the unique challenges they face.

The group meets every Thursday to swim in the fresh salt water of Terrigal Beach. Participants range from beginners to seasoned swimmers, and are encouraged to challenge themselves and reach personal goals in a supportive environment. Whether it’s ocean swimming, hiking, or team sports, the RSL NSW Sport & Recreation Program offers opportunities for veterans and their families to connect with their peers and engage in adaptive physical activities suitable for all ages and abilities Learn more about the RSL NSW Sport and Recreation Program and find an activity happening near you.
