Team RSL NSW Sport takes the 2023 City2Surf in their stride

Over 100 current serving members and veterans of the Australian Defence Force, and their families lined up with ‘Team RSL NSW Sport’ for a day of challenges, mateship, and camaraderie at the  world’s largest fun run City2Surf. Standing strong as the largest veteran and family member team this year, the team’s presence illuminated the track like a beacon of shared purpose.

Aged between 1 and 83, the team from communities across NSW completed the 14 km course tracing their journey from Hyde Park, Sydney to Bondi Beach. The team then gathered at the North Bondi RSL Club for a celebratory lunch, and a chance to bond, share stories, and build connections, fostering camaraderie and a sense of belonging.

City2Surf provides a unique recreational opportunity for veterans and their families to come together, share experiences, and forge new friendships.  For many, the also events provide a sense of camaraderie, belonging, and a shared appreciation for the unique challenges they have experienced.

Veterans who were unable to physically join the race have been supporting the team and the RSL NSW Sport & Recreation Program virtually via the RSL Runners and Walkers club on Strava.

RSL NSW is proud to see members representing over 50 RSL NSW sub-Branches and the wider veteran community come together to participate in recreational events like the City2Surf, which exemplify the League’s fundamental mission – connecting veterans and their families with the support and services they need. This event also demonstrates our dedication to providing a support network to veterans and their families to come together to conquer challenges, both physically and emotionally, while having fun.

Special thanks go to the partnership of North Bondi RSL Club and North Bondi RSL sub-Branch for supporting the post-event lunch event with a fantastic venue.
