Kokoda campaign – 80th anniversary expedition

To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Kokoda Campaign, personnel from the 39th Operational Support Battalion (39 OSB) and the 16th Royal Western Australian Regiment (16 RWAR) set out on a commemorative expedition to retrace the steps of their forebears on the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea.

After starting from opposite ends of the track with guides and local porters, sponsored by RSL Australia, RSL NSW and RSL WA, the soldiers came together for a dawn service at Brigade Hill on 6 September to acknowledge the significance of the site for their respective Battalions and commemorate the 62 Australian soldiers killed in 1942.
