National Centre for Veterans’ Healthcare
The National Centre for Veteran’s Health (NCVH) specialises in administering tailored healthcare for veterans, recognising that they often need very different care to the general public.
The NCVH opened in 2019 and is located at Concord Hospital which was originally founded as a military hospital after World War II.
RSL NSW has appointed a Liaison Officer at the Centre, Bronte Pollard, whose dedicated role is to connect veterans to the services available at the NCVH where a Personal Case Manager is appointed to each veteran. Bronte also facilitates connection to services and support in the home communities of discharged veterans from the Centre.
Being the first of its kind in Australia, the NCVH offers:
- dietetics
- diversional therapy
- drug health
- exercise physiology
- occupational therapy
- pain management
- physiotherapy
- psychiatry
- psychology
- rehabilitation medicine
- social work
Fussell House
The support of partners and family is essential for veterans being treated at the NCVH.
Fussell House, also located at Concord Hospital, provides residential accommodation for veterans and their families who need to travel from interstate or regional areas. Veterans can bring with them their nominated support people and/or family members.
The accommodation features 19 rooms (single, twin and family rooms) with common living, kitchen, dining and laundry spaces and an outdoor area.
NCVH treatment eligibility
- Australian citizens aged 17 years or older.
- Ex-serving ADF personnel with discharge summary.
- Current ADF personnel following review by ADF medical officer.
- Medicare or DVA card holder.
Referral process
Anyone can refer a veteran to the Centre, including self-referral, family members, carers, friends and/or support people.
A referral from a GP or ADF Medical Officer will be required to begin care. This referral can be coordinated by a Case Manager.
