This Ode
This Ode by poet Rupert McCall was written at the request of a father who lost his son in Afghanistan. Upon writing the poem McCall was compelled to mention every Australian who did not make it home from the war, and those who did, but could not escape its impact and memories even at home.
Rupert McCall is an Australian poet of international renown. He has presented on stages from ANZAC Cove in Gallipoli to Ground Zero in New York and paid tribute to many of his country’s heroes. Rupert wrote This Ode as a tribute to those Australians who made the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan and those who continue to do so. So that their names will not be forgotten.
The Inaugural Middle East Area of Operations Commemoration will include a reading of the poem This Ode.
