Royal Commission releases more information and invites submissions

The Chair of the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide has encouraged the veteran community to make submissions that will help inform the inquiry.

The letter from Nick Kaldas APM states that the Commissioners will produce an interim report by 11 August 2022 and a final report by 15 June 2023:

“To do this we need your help and your stories, so that we can learn as much as we can about the issues and situations surrounding the deaths by suicide of defence personnel and veterans. We want to hear, learn and then act, informed by your accounts and your experiences.”

The Royal Commission has also recently released background papers submitted by the Department of Defence and Department of Veterans’ Affairs which can be viewed on the Royal Commission website here.

As communicated recently to members and sub-Branches, RSL NSW has requested input from members and the wider veteran community to inform its submission to the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide, via RSL Australia which is preparing a consolidated national submission.

Please follow this link if you would like to provide input via our survey. To enable RSL NSW to meet the RSL Australia deadline for its submission, your input is required on or before Monday 27 September 2021.

You can find more information by visiting the RSL NSW Royal Commission Office page or our Advocacy for Veterans’ Health and Suicide page.
