Defence Home Ownership Assistance Scheme
Australian Military Bank also offers a range of low-cost DHOAS (Defence Home Ownership Assistance Scheme) home loans. DHOAS offers a home loan repayment subsidy to help get eligible members of the Defence community into a new home.
The eligibility criteria for DHOAS have now been expanded, opening the scheme up to even more serving and ex-serving Defence personnel. There is now no deadline to apply for a DHOAS certificate after you leave Defence, meaning veterans who have served on or after 30 June 2008 now have far greater access to the scheme.
The minimum service for the subsidy amounts has also been reduced. The minimum serving period is two years’ permanent service, or four years for a reservist, meaning those with a shorter service period are now also able to benefit from the scheme.
With these changes to DHOAS making higher tier subsidy amounts easier to access, it’s worthwhile assessing if you could be eligible for DHOAS, and what your benefit might be. To check your eligibility visit DHOAS.gov.au or call 1300 434 627.
